Up time

Improving DCM utilization is usually the second most effective way to reduce production downtime after cycle time. In the production of complex castings, the die often causes the most significant amount of downtime. Schaufler Tooling has developed several solutions to minimize such downtime.

Set-up / die change

• Quick change of slide units on the casting machine; <10 min from shot to shot are possible
• Patented quick change of inserts including ejector unit for compact castings such as Shocktower, developed by Schaufler Tooling

Flashing / dimensional deviations

• Homogeneous surface temperatures of the die
• Patented flash stop to prevent the die from flashing, developed by Schaufler Tooling
• Die centering and slide locking system, developed by Schaufler Tooling and now used in more than 300 molds

Repairs in the casting machine

• Quick-change of core pins and sub inserts
• Tungsten-based coatings
• Leak-free plugs for cooling holes: Guaranteed over the entire die life
• Tube-in-tube solution for fountain-type spot-cooling to reduce leakage points
• Corrosion-free water (water treatment with Paulysan® or Pritalis®)
